GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. --

A 39-year-old Greenwood County fire official is accused of having sex with an unconscious woman he was supposed to be helping during the big winter storm in January.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigators said that on Jan. 11, Greenwood County Fire Coordinator Corey Randolph Grumelot was transporting a 26-year-old woman from Abbeville to Greenwood because of weather.

According to arrest warrants, the woman became incapacitated because of medication she took. The report said instead of taking the woman where she wanted to go, Grumelot took her to a hotel where he sexually assaulted her while she was not conscious.

The warrant said that Grumelot became concerned that the woman needed medical treatment, so he then took her to a hospital where he gave false information to the staff.

Grumelot turned himself in to SLED agents Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and misconduct.

SLED investigated the allegation at the request of the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. Grumelot resigned from his position after he had been place on unpaid administrative leave.
