MILWAUKEE --

Milwaukee firefighters worked to put out a seven-story apartment building fire Thursday night.

The fire broke out shortly before 8 p.m. in a 39-unit building on Prospect Avenue, just north of Ogden Avenue.

A witness told 12 News that fire trucks had a hard time navigating the area because snow-covered cars are still lining nearby streets.

A woman was seen being taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Her condition and identity have not yet been released.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters said the blaze started in a kitchen on the sixth floor.

Apartments on the fourth through seventh floors are off-limits tonight, displacing as many as 40 to 50 people, firefighters said.

Fire officials said they hope to have the floors opened again on Friday morning.
