JEANNETTE, Pa. --

Two overnight fires in Jeanette were under investigation Wednesday morning.

Fire crews said the first fire started at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday at an abandoned house in the 300 block of North Fifth Street. The fire was put out a little after midnight. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of that fire.

Another fire in Jeannette started in a kitchen of an apartment building on Columbia Court a little after 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire crews said a police officer was on a routine patrol in the area when he heard a woman screaming for help. Upon arrival, the officer spotted the woman hanging out of a second-floor window.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in a matter of 10 minutes, and said the flames were contained to the kitchen on the first floor.

EMS rescued the woman from the second floor, and a police officer got the male out of the front door of the first floor, police said.

One person was flown by helicopter to a local hospital, and another person was transported by ground to Excella Health Westmoreland Hospital.
