Camp Pendleton Smoke Closes Calif. Highway

Camp Pendleton firefighters battled a brush fire burning on the post at Camp Pendleton Saturday, authorities said.

The fire was reported just after 2:40 p.m. near the Las Pulgas Road exit on Interstate 5, said a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

Two of the highway's lanes were shut down by CHP because smoke was blowing across the road, but all lanes were reopened by 3:30 p.m., the dispatcher said.

The dispatcher did not know the size of the brush fire, but said Camp Pendleton firefighters were handling it.

No one at the Camp Pendleton Fire Department or Camp Pendleton media relations offices could be reached for more information.
