Flames erupted at a house on Saint James Street and Ellsworth Avenue in Pittsburghs Shadyside neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Police said it began in the attic of a home under construction.
Channel 11 News was there as the roof of the building collapsed.
We had some collapse, said Pittsburgh Fire Battalion Chief Frank Large. When that happens we want to know right away where all our people are, so that caused a few moments of consternation. But we were able to account for all our folks quickly and realize no one was hurt so we worked on the extraction.
After the fire three firefighters went to UPMC Mercy to be checked out for minor injuries. Large said one firefighter slipped and caught himself on some stairs and another strained his shoulder trying to break through walls searching for extensions of the fire.
"They were uncomfortable enough to bring it up, they were all walking around afterward, but they brought it to my attention and I sent them to Mercy to get checked out," said Large.
The woman who owns the home said she was not living there because of the renovations. There is no word on the amount of damages done.
