JACKSON, Miss. --
Three Jackson firefighters were injured Monday while battling a fire, city officials said.
The fire broke out at about 7 a.m. at 3107 Whitten Road, Fire Chief R. D. Simpson said. A neighbor said the house had been vacant.
All three of the firefighters were transported to a local hospital, where two were treated and released, Simpson said. The third firefighter remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon, Simpson said.
Two of the firefighters suffered burns and the third collapsed from heat exhaustion, Simpson said.
The Jackson Fire Department is conducting an investigation to determine how the firefighters were injured, Simpson said.
