PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A massive fire burned a historic mill building last night and the intense flames cause portions of the structure to collapse, according to WPRI-TV

The fire started at approximately 11:30 p.m. inside the former Union Wadding mill building on Goff Avenue, which was built in the 1800s.

While part of the building is vacant, it currently houses The Lofts apartments.

No one was injured in the blaze, Fire Chief William Sisson told the news station.

Residents have been evacuated as a precaution, but many are upset because their pets are still inside.

"Right now we are just investigating the fire," he said. "We actually have not been able to get into the building, obviously, because of the nature of the building at this time."

Firefighters from Pawtucket were joined by departments from around Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
