WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --

Rescue crews and mechanics in West Palm Beach worked to free a kitten trapped in a truck Thursday afternoon.

The truck was parked in a parking lot on Okeechobee Boulevard near CityPlace. The owner of the truck heard the kitten crying and called rescue crews.

West Palm Beach fire rescue and West Palm Beach police responded to the parking lot but realized the kitten was in a difficult to reach place, so they called mechanics from a nearby shop.

The mechanics ended up disassembling the truck and found the kitten near the engine compartment.

The kitten was covered in grime and oil, but was otherwise fine.

Officials don't know where the kitten came from. They named it Dakota, for the truck it was found in. One of the police officers that responded planned to adopt Dakota.
