CARLISLE, Iowa --

The Carlisle City Council could reconsider its decision to suspend its fire chief.

Two weeks ago, the council suspended Scott Burger for 6 months after a police report showed he was intoxicated during a medical call.

Now, the city's medical director has written a letter saying his opinion was misrepresented at the council meeting.

Doctor Michael McCormick told the city administrator that he now believes "there certainly is a question as to standard of care." He's also concerned that the patient nearly choked because of Chief Burger's actions.

The medical director's letter is on the consent agenda for Monday night.

If a council member decides to pull the letter and discuss it, the city attorney said the council could go back and reconsider the chief's suspension.
