Edward Eckert, 71, was at his home when the tones alerted his department to a fire call. He fell while walking across his living room to respond, the USFA reported Thursday.

He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. His condition deteriorated, and he died on June 6. The cause of death was determined to have been a brain hemorrhage.
