Houston police said David Chacon, 20, did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Satsuma and Coral streets at about 4 a.m. Sunday.

The Chevrolet Silverado that Chacon was driving went up the driveway of a home in the 700 block of Coral Street and crashed into it, investigators said.

Detectives said a 4-month-old girl, Elizabeth Cedillo, was asleep in the front room of the home and was hit. She was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and placed on life support before she died, officials said.

"A car went through the house and the baby was hurt," neighbor Maria Gutierrez said.

Neighbors tried to help the parents.

"They were bleeding. They had big cuts -- on her head and on her arms," neighbor Edward Jerman said. "(The neighbor) started screaming that her baby was in there."

Jerman said he broke a window to search for the baby.

"Firefighters came and took out the beds and the Sheetrock and there was the baby," Jerman said.

Chacon fled the scene, but was later arrested at his home two blocks away, in the 7500 block of Satsuma Street, police said.

Chacon has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, investigators said.
