The application period for the FY 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grants began this morning.

Departments must submit applications to be considered for awards by May 28 at 5 p.m. (ET).
The grants will provide $390 million to departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country, according to a press release from FEMA.
These funds will allow fire and EMS departments to obtain training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response vehicles.
