Calif. Man Electrocuted Taking Photos

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A man from Bakersfield was electrocuted after coming in contact with high-voltage power lines. The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in Shafter. County fire said 22-year-old William Cantrell was in a hydraulic lift, taking photos of a construction site on Imperial Street when the lift collided with the PG&E lines. Fire crews said Cantrell was killed instantly, but because they had to wait for PG&E to deactivate the line, recovering his body took some time.

A man from Bakersfield was electrocuted after coming in contact with high-voltage power lines.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in Shafter.

County fire said 22-year-old William Cantrell was in a hydraulic lift, taking photos of a construction site on Imperial Street when the lift collided with the PG&E lines.

Fire crews said Cantrell was killed instantly, but because they had to wait for PG&E to deactivate the line, recovering his body took some time.

Nearly a dozen firefighters responded, but Sean Collins with the Kern County Fire Department said there was no chance of saving Cantrell.
