7-Alarm Fire Hits Ind. Businesses

SELLERSBURG, Ind. --

A seven-alarm fire in Clark County destroyed several businesses on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in the Silver Creek Plaza on Highway 31 West, in Sellersburg.

Black smoke billowed from the strip mall and could be seen from several miles away.

Officials said the fire started at the Alley Cat Lanes bowling alley.

After the smoke cleared, smoke and water damage was visible in nearly all of the businesses in the plaza.

Crews from Clarksville, Charlestown, New Washington, Henryville and Utica assisted the Sellersburg Fire Department.

Crews pumped more than 5,000 gallons of water a minute onto the flames.

It took firefighters more than an hour to get the fire under control. Fire crews remained on the scene late Tuesday afternoon.
