KEY WEST, Fla. --

Two people were rescued from a yacht that caught fire near a bridge between Craig and Fiesta keys on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire broke out in the engine room aboard a 45-foot yacht at about 2:30 p.m. about a half-mile south of the Channel 5 bridge, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard sent out a broadcast, asking any boaters in the area to help. A Good Samaritan rescued the two people from the yacht, 56-year-old Caleb Boyd and 51-year-old Lauren Luik, who had gotten into a life raft.

Monroe County deputies and firefighters went to the Channel 5 bridge to keep traffic flowing.

Officials said the yacht was still on fire at about 6 p.m. Boat crews from the Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were on hand, and officials were monitoring the situation to make sure there were no pollution concerns.
