HANCOCK, N.H. --

A firefighter working at a two-alarm fire Monday morning was injured, and a family that lived at the home managed to escape in time.

When firefighters arrived at 106 North Road in Hancock shortly before 6 a.m. Monday, they could see flames emanating from the chimney, officials said.

Crews who entered the house encountered smoky conditions as the fire spread. A family room and the attic were damaged by the fire, and there was smoke and heat damage in the kitchen and dining room.

A firefighter who slipped while going upstairs broke his wrist.

It took firefighters about an hour and a half to get the scene under control, officials said.

Investigators said they believe the fire may have started in a wood stove and chimney.
