A Baker firefighter was burned after his glove was caught while exiting a burning house yesterday, according to The Advocate.

Firefighters responded to a call at 1775 Texas Street at approximately 5:20 p.m. to find the structure engulfed in flames.

They attempted to initiate and interior attack, but as the flames spread they were soon ordered to evacuate.

While one of the firefighters was evacuating, his glove was caught, causing the flames to burn his hand.

The unidentified firefighter sustained first- and second-degree burns and was transported to the hospital.

"He'll be back with us," department spokesman Howard Ward told the newspaper. "We train and train, but this is one of those situations you can't predict."

A mother and her four children were in the home at the time of the fire, but escaped without injury.

Investigators believe the fire started in one of the children's bedrooms, but the cause is still undetermined, according to the report.
