S.C. Firefighter Revived After Collapsing

A Lexington County firefighter had to be revived after his heart stopped while helped pull a trapped driver following a fatal crash on Feb. 17, according to WIS-TV.Battalion Chief Charles Wessinger told the news station that crews were called to a wreck on Old Dunbar Road at around 2 p.m. where a two-car accident left one driver trapped and the other driver dead.

Battalion Chief Charles Wessinger told the news station that crews were called to a wreck on Old Dunbar Road at around 2 p.m. where a two-car accident left one driver trapped and the other driver dead.

They were extricating the trapped driver when the unidentified firefighter collapsed. He received medical attention at the scene before being transported to the hospital.

The firefighter regained consciousness after crews used CPR and an automatic defibrillator on him, the report said.

It took crews approximately 45 minutes to finally free the trapped driver.

The firefighter will stay in the hospital for at least a week.
