A Savannah firefighter was injured after becoming pinned between a ladder truck and his engine that rolled away at the scene of a fire early this morning, according to the Savannah Morning News.
Department spokesman Mark Keller told the newspaper that the 37-year-old firefighter was attempting to engage the pump on the engine when it "lurched forward" and rolled close to 100 feet before it hit a ladder truck and a Savannah-Chatham police cruiser.
The firefighter tried to jump back into the engine's cab, but became pinned against the ladder truck following the collision. The eight-year veteran suffered bruises and lacerations and was transported to Memorial University Medical Center and later released.
The fire, which occurred at a mobile home park off DeRenne Avenue shortly after 2 am., was out within 20 minutes but damaged two mobile homes.
