Two College Students Dead in Colo. Fire

GUNNISON, Colo. -- Two people are dead after an early morning fire on Saturday in Gunnison. The Gunnison Police Department said a passer-by called 911 at around 5:20 a.m., about a house fire at the 100 block North Colorado Street. Two police officers arrived and assisted four people out of the burning residence. The police department said two occupants were found deceased inside an upstairs bedroom.

Two people are dead after an early morning fire on Saturday in Gunnison.

The Gunnison Police Department said a passer-by called 911 at around 5:20 a.m., about a house fire at the 100 block North Colorado Street.

Two police officers arrived and assisted four people out of the burning residence. The police department said two occupants were found deceased inside an upstairs bedroom.

The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Adam Lockhard of Bethesda, Maryland, and 18-year-old Lucille Causley from Missouri. Both were students at Western State College. Lockhard lived at the house and Causley was a guest at the residence when the fire occurred.

Investigators determined the fire began on the exterior of the house and spread inside. Arson investigators are determining if the fire was accidental or intentionally set. The police department said one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation suffered while battling the blaze. Also a police officer suffered minor injuries, caused by broken glass.
