FDNY Swears in New Department Chief

Edward Kilduff was sworn in as the FDNY's 34th Chief of Department today, making him the agency's highest ranking uniformed official, according to a press release. Kilduff is a 32-year verteran of the FDNY and succeeds newly appointed Commissioner Salvatore Cassano. He previously served for five years as the Brooklyn Borough Commander. "I have a lot of tradition to uphold," Kilduff said in a statement. "But I know everyone in the field and here at headquarters will help me move the department forward."

He previously served for five years as the Brooklyn Borough Commander.

Commissioner Cassano said, "He’'s a natural -- he fits the part, he is the part. His career speaks for itself."
