Four Grasonville firefighters were injured on the night of Jan. 11 when their stopped fire engine was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer, according to The Star-Democrat.

The Web site Fire in the Hole Photography reported that the incident occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. after Engine 26 responded to a motor vehicle collision with reported injuries at the Kent Narrows Bridge.

The engine was blocking two lanes of traffic to allow crews to safely operate.

The road conditions were beginning to worsen due to snow fall at the time of the collision.

Assistant Chief Steve McCombs, 38 and firefighters Alex Dale, 27, Tom Sheahan, 23, and Ray Stokes, 26, were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis and were treated and released.

Department officials told The Star-Democrat that the 18-year-old engine was badly damaged and is a total loss.
