DENVER --

All she did was start her car. Now a Denver woman's garage is completely destroyed.

It caught fire around 11:30 a.m. Sunday after the woman started her 1980 Maserati at her home near South Cherokee Street and West Yale Avenue.

The owner said she then went inside her home and heard an explosion.

Black smoke from the fire could be seen a few miles away.

Firefighters said old ammunition was inside the oversized two-car garage. One slug hit a firefighter, but he was not injured.

Fire spokesman Phil Champagne said the bullet lacked velocity, since it was not fired from the barrel of a gun.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 15 minutes.

The home suffered minor fire damage but the garage was totaled.
