WEST PRICE HILL --

Two people, including a firefighter, were injured early Thursday when a home in West Price Hill caught fire.

The fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. on the 4400 block of Glenway Avenue.

One person was trapped on the third floor of the home. Firefighters went into the home to attempt a rescue.

Investigators said one firefighter fell down a flight of stairs while searching the third floor in heavy smoke conditions. The firefighter dislodged his breathing mask, causing him to inhale smoke.

A second firefighter issued a Mayday call and reached the injured firefighter, getting him to safety.

Crews then used a ladder to rescue the home's occupants from the third floor.

Both the firefighter and the home's occupant were treated by paramedics, then transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Glenway Avenue was closed between Roselawn and Sunset because the water used to fight the fire turned to ice on the road. Glenway was expected to be closed until 9 a.m.

The fire caused about $65,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation.
