Steam Causes Wis. Airport Evacuation

MILWAUKEE -- Concourse E at Mitchell International Airport was evacuated at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. WISN 12 News was originally told that smoke was coming from a machine room, but airport spokesman Ryan McAdams said that what actually happened was a liquid dripped onto a hot pipe in the machine room, and that it steam, not smoke.

Concourse E at Mitchell International Airport was evacuated at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

WISN 12 News was originally told that smoke was coming from a machine room, but airport spokesman Ryan McAdams said that what actually happened was a liquid dripped onto a hot pipe in the machine room, and that it steam, not smoke.

A passenger who was sitting in a club area of the concourse told 12 News that firefighters first told him it was an small electrical fire but then came back about 10 minutes later and told him everybody had to leave.

There were no reports of damages of injuries.

Passengers were able to return to the concourse by about 2:15 p.m., McAdams said.

Continental Express and Delta fly out of Concourse E. There were some minor flight delays.
