WHEATON, Md. (WUSA) -- An apartment fire has become the scene of a dramatic rescue in Wheaton, Maryland.
A spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue says the fire started on the second floor of a 3-story apartment building just before 8:30 Tuesday morning in the 2100 block of Shorefield Dr. Five residents have been rescued from the third story of the building, including two children, ages 2 and 10.
Officials say smoke from the fire sent the residents on the third floor to balconies where they were rescued. All five victims were taken to Holy Cross Hospital for Evaluation.
