PONTCHATOULA, La. -- Ponchatoula firefighters are investigating a mobile home fire that killed three children early Thursday morning.

Fire crews responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. in the 700 block of West McClellan Street in Ponchatoula, about 50 miles north of New Orleans.

Family members said that two boys -- 10-year-old Devonte Young and 11-year-old Ladarius Johnson -- were killed in the mobile home. Devontre Young, 10, twin brother to Devonte, was taken to a burn center in Shreveport, where he later died.

An 11-year-old girl made it out of the house alive, and another girl, 5 or 6 years old, was sent to an intensive care unit in Baton Rouge, family members said.

The grandmother and grandfather, who were in the mobile home at the time of the blaze, were released from North Oaks Medical Center shortly after admittance. The mother of the children suffered minor injuries and the father suffered injuries while trying to rescue the children, family members said.

Police Chief Bry Layrisson said the mobile home was engulfed in flames when he arrived on the scene.

A crew of 22 firefighters was dispatched to the fire. The state fire marshal has taken over the investigation.
