Massachusetts Firefighter Hurt at Mansion Blaze

NEWTON, Mass. --

One Newton firefighter suffered minor injuries while crews battled a huge blaze at a million dollar mansion on Exeter Street overnight.

He was taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital after hurting his back. No one else was hurt.

Officials said the three-alarm blaze broke out in the $3.2 million home at 101 Exeter near Commonwealth Avenue about 1:30 a.m.

NewsCenter 5's Shiba Russell reported that the owners were living across the street on Elizabeth Circle and had put the home on the market. It had recently been under renovation.

Firefighters said the fire appeared to start in the basement of the home and spread through the floor, walls and ceiling.

The cause is under investigation.
