LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. --

The Lauderdale Lakes Fire Department is investigating a suspicious fire at a restaurant just off 3596 North State Road 7.

The blaze at the Snappers Fish and Chicken Restaurant broke out around midnight Friday.

When firefighters arrived, they say the building was covered with heavy black smoke.

It took crews an hour to get the two-alarm fire under control.

At times, temperatures reached over 1,000 degrees in the roof, bending the frame of the building and making the fire fight very dangerous.

One firefighter was injured and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the blaze.

They say the restaurant had not yet opened for business and the building was locked up.
