PREBLE COUNTY, Ohio --

Multiple fire crews spent Sunday night into Monday morning battling a large barn fire in Preble County.

The fire was in the 6500 block of Monroe Central Road, near Eldorado.

Someone called 911 at about 8p.m. to report a barn full of animals was on fire. People at the scene said the farm owners raise exotic birds and animals.

Crews at the scene tell News Center Seven at least 100 animals, including sheep, chickens, ducks and geese, have died in the fire. Many of the surviving birds were frightened by the smoke and flames.

They also said the fire destroyed two trucks and a motor home.

Fire officials said one of the most challenging aspects of fighting the fire was a lack of water in the area. The area lacks fire hydrants and firefighters had to bring water in to fight the fire.

Officials don't know the cause of the fire.
