HOPKINTON, Mass. --

State police were investigating the death of a Hyannis woman, and serious injuries to two others, during a Sept. 11 memorial motorcycle ride in Hopkinton Sunday morning.

Troopers said two motorcycles collided on Route 495 northbound, at the West Main Street exit in Hopkinton about 7 a.m., killing Nancy Costa, 46, a passenger on one of the bikes who died after the crash at UMass Medical Center.

Troopers said a preliminary investigation showed that a group of motorcycles where traveling together when two of the motorcycles crashed as they were entering 495.

A 2001 Yamaha driven by Colin Cronin, 39, of Hyannis, was entering 495 when it hit a 2005 Honda motorcycle operated by William Sheridan, 43, from Waltham, troopers said.

Both operators suffered serious injuries and were flown to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, police said.
