ROCHESTER, N.H. --
Rochester police said an overnight fire at 161 Wakefield St. has been ruled arson.
The fire was reported at a McDonald's that was under construction just after midnight Thursday. Police said the two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the rear section of the building with heat and smoke damage throughout.
Rochester fire Capt. Joe Burns said there had previously been a McDonald's restaurant at the same location, but crews had torn down the old one and started anew. The new building had been under construction for about two months.
Crews from Rochester, Milton and Somersworth responded to the scene. Crews from Dover and Barrington provided station coverage.
There were no injuries to any firefighters while battling the flames.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Rochester police at 335-6500.
