DENVER --

Westminster firefighters saved a poodle named Charlie Brown after he fell through the ice at a pond in the Hyland Hills golf course.

The dogs owner said he ran after geese onto the partially frozen pond.

The dog was hanging onto the edge of the ice in the center of the pond when fire crews arrived.

One firefighter plunged into the icy water and grabbed the pet, said police spokeswoman Diana M. Allen.

Both were pulled to safety by firefighters on the shore.

The Westminster Fire Department would like to remind citizens that it is never safe to go out on frozen bodies of water in the metro area. The risk of falling through the ice into the freezing water is very real, Allen said.
