A Roberts firefighter was struck by a deputy's cruiser while on the scene of a fire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighter Benjamin Charles Poston was the first at the scene in his personal vehicle and was trying to flag down the deputy when he was hit, according to KIFI-TV.

The 61-year-old was transported by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and was listed in stable condition, officials told the news station.

The deputy reported he was unable to see the firefighter because he was wearing dark clothing and administered aid until the ambulance arrived.

The responders were called to a fire caused by downed power lines at 2878 East 650 North when the incident occurred.

Idaho State Police is currently investigating the crash.
