ALEXANDRIA, Va. --
Two children are killed and an adult is injured in a house fire in Fairfax County on Friday morning.
The fire broke out at about 12:30 a.m. at 2421 Popkins Lane in Alexandria.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire in the front area of the house, News4's Megan McGrath reported.
A man suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns was found outside the house, fire officials said.
Firefighters said it took about 30 minutes to put out the blaze.
Officials said they found the bodies of two children in an upstairs bedroom. There is evidence the children tried to get out of the burning house, a fire department representative said.
There has been no word on the identities of the two children.
There has also been no word on the cause of the fire.
Damage is estimated at $200,000.
Two adults have been displaced, and the Red Cross is assisting them, officials said.
Authorities said a woman was also found outside the house. Officials said they are not sure if the woman had been inside the house or if she arrived at the scene during the fire. The woman was not injured, officials said.
