WINTER GARDEN, Fla. --

A subdivision was evacuated Wednesday afternoon and smoke billowed high into the air at a fire at a Winter Garden fertilizer plant. The Winter Garden Fire Department was called to the Diamond R Fertilizer Company after someone reported a fire.

Because of the presence of fertilizers and chemicals on the property, the Orange County Sheriff's Office was called in to assist in the evacuation of nearby residents in the Covington Chase subdivision. Crews on the scene said Covington Chase is a neighborhood under construction. There was no immediate word on the number of people asked to leave.

Dillard Street Elementary School is in the area, but children had already been dismissed before the fire. The school was being considered as an evacuation point.

There were no reports of injuries.
