Florida Little Leaguers Spot Fire

A worker's torch may have sparked the fire.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. --

A fire burned through the roof of Oak Ridge High School on Monday night, but classes will go on Tuesday morning. Firefighters worked through the night to make sure the fire didn't flare up again.

Investigators believe a roofer doing some work may have caused the fire, but they're not totally sure. Eyewitnesses said the fire could've been much worse if it wasn't for a baseball game being played at the school Monday night.

The flames shooting out of the roof of the high school got the attention of a little league baseball team in the middle of their game.

"A fielder was sitting there staring out towards the high school," said Chief Reggie Price of Orange County Fire Rescue.

Parents dialed 911. The flames hovered over what appeared to be a computer lab. Firefighters tried to save the expensive equipment inside.

"A couple of our chiefs did go to school here so they showed up to check on their old school," added Price.

Firefighters believe a roofer using a blow torch may have sparked the fire that grew. A district spokesperson told us the damage was contained to one classroom, so there was no need to cancel school.

School officials said they were still waiting on the State Fire Marshal to confirm the cause of the fire.
