BRECKNOCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. --

A woman was killed in a fire in Lancaster County on Sunday.

Arlene Lesher, 72, died in the fire at her home on the 1400 block of Kilmer Lane in Denver.

Firefighters said Lesher's son, Mark Lesher, discovered the fire. Mark Lesher and another man fought the flames and tried to save Arlene.

"He had second-degree burns on his hands from putting the fire out and trying to carry his mom out of the room that was on fire," said Fivepoinville Fire Department Chief Esra Hoover. "He realized she was burned that badly and there was nothing he could do for her."

Mark Lesher was treated and discharged from Ephrata Hospital.

Damage to the home is estimated at $10,000. There's no word on a cause.
