Woman Killed in Indianapolis Fire

A police officer spotted the flames.

INDIANAPOLIS --

One person was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning on Indianapolis' northwest side.

A police officer who was driving by the home in the 2400 block of North Goodlet Avenue saw the fire and called dispatchers.

When firefighters arrived at the home, flames and heavy smoke were coming from the home.

A body was found inside after firefighters knocked down the flames.

Investigators did not immediately identify the victim, but neighbors said an elderly woman lived there.

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze. Damage to the home was estimated at $90,000.
