LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. --

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue firefighters and visiting firefighters from Cuenca, Ecuador received a call for a kitten trapped in the wall of a Lauderdale Lakes home Friday afternoon.

When firefighters arrived at the home, 4431 NW 36th St., they heard meowing in the wall between the kitchen and the living room.

Broward Sheriff Firefighter Richard Alvarez takes the kitty to safety. Lt. John Schneider checks for any other possible kittens.

Using thermal imaging cameras and a stethoscope, they were able to pinpoint the source of the meowing.

The rescuers cut two small holes in the wall and found the trapped kitten resting on an electrical box between the studs about four feet off the ground.

Firefighters said it appeared the kitten was only a few days to a week old.

The kitten was taken to a local veterinarian to get checked out.
