Four Crew Members Injured in California Fire Helicopter Crash

The crew members are in critical condition after a helicopter fighting a contained blaze crashed.

REDDING, Calif. --

Four fire crew members are in critical condition after a helicopter fighting a contained blaze crashed late Tuesday, officials said.

The helicopter crashed at the north end of the Buckhorn Fire, and was assigned to the Iron Complex at the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Officials have not confirmed the number of people aboard the helicopter.

The nearest city to the Buckhorn Fire is Junction City.

Forest officials said they learned of the crash at about 7:45 p.m.

A U.S. Forest Service Accident Investigation Team will respond Wednesday to the scene of the crash, officials said.

The four fire crew members were brought to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, officials said.

A press conference is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
