A Penn Hills firefighter died Monday morning after responding to a fire call.

PENN HILLS, Pa. --

A Penn Hills firefighter died Monday morning after responding to a fire call.

Harvey Jordon began experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain at the Penn Hills No. 1 fire station.

Fellow firefighers attempted CPR and he was taken to St. Margaret Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A representative for the Fire Department told Channel 11 the cause of death was an apparent heart attack.

Jordon had been on the force since 2003.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held for Firefighter Jordon on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at 7 pm. at Wesley Center AME Zion Church, 2701 Center Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

A private funeral service and interment will be held in North Carolina.

The family requests that any monetary donations be made to: Penn Hills #1 Volunteer Fire Department in Firefighter Jordon's memory.

As of now all Penn Hills & Verona Fire Firefighters are to meet at St.221 by no later than 6pm on Wednesday evening. All apparatus is asked to use the Mt. Carmel Cemetary Entrance near the intersection of Mt. Carmel @ Blackadore and then making a left and follow the narrow road to the top of the hill and around and back down to the exit at Tyler near the Firehall. 221 Apparatus will be lined up already and all units are expected to fall in line in there respective order by number.

Any outside agencies that wish to meet here as well can do so but it is asked that you stage in the upper area of the Cemetary until all Penn Hills & Verona Units line up first.

At this time the procession is to be led by Penn Hills PD and followed up by Allegheny County PD. The procession line will then use the route of Mt. Carmel to Lincoln, on to 5th Ave. then to N Craig and onto Herron to Center. City of Pgh Police Zone 2 have been so gracious to have city PD units assisting in traffic control and parking, posting areas of no parking so there is room for apparatus, and they will close entire streets if needed. They were more than willing to work with us in this time of need and they should be commended.

The FF from Penn Hills will be lined up in the middle isle of the church and at the conclusion of the service each Penn Hills and Verona Chief will lay a Rose at the casket and file out with all Penn Hills & Verona FF following. All other FF will be lined in the side isle and will follow suit in passing the casket and exiting as instructed by Bill Ruth or his designee.

As FF exit the church they can begin to return and mount there apparatus and stand by for the return FF procession to Penn Hills. The return route will be the same route and pass St. 221 for the Final Call for FF Jordan and then proceed on Frankstown Rd to Penn Hills #7 (St.227) for refreshments.
