DARLINGTON, S.C. --

Authorities say a Darlington County deputy shot and wounded a 64-year-old woman outside her burning home after she shot at firefighters.

Deputies say firefighters were called to the small fire yesterday morning, but the woman started firing her gun.

Sheriff's Lieutenant Robin Bryant says when deputies arrived, the woman pointed the gun at officers, and a deputy shot her once.

Authorities did not release her name, but said she was being treated in a hospital in Hartsville.

Bryant says the officer who shot the woman is on paid leave while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates.
