Tennessee Firefighter Collapses, Dies

The 19-year veteran collapsed after running several calls.

The U.S. Fire Administration is reporting the line of duty death of a Memphis, Tennessee firefighter October 24.

Lieutenant Wendell Jeffrey, 47, was a 19-year veteran currently stationed at Engine 19.

He had responded to multiple alarms during his shift. He was back at the station when he suddenly collapsed from a cause still to be determined. Care was initiated and he was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jeffrey is survived by his wife and three children.

Visitation is scheduled for October 30, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Harrison's Orange Mound Funeral Home, 2647 Carnes Avenue, Memphis.

The funeral will be held October 31, 11 a.m., at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 2237 South Parkway East in Memphis. Burial will follow at the State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forrest Hill Irene Road, Memphis.
