The landmark rink was destroyed in the blaze that could be seen for miles.

Firefighters spent the night battling a blaze at a landmark roller skating rink in Ypsilanti Township on Friday.

The fire destroyed the Woodland Skating Center at 2041 Ecorse Road, Local 4 reported.

When firefighters arrived, flames could be seen shooting 100 feet into the air and everyone inside the building was being evacuated.

Ypsilanti Township Fire Chief Larry Morabito told Local 4 the main fire started in the rink area but the exact cause was under investigation.

Morabito said there was an event at the rink on Thursday and the rink had closed for the evening. At approximately 11:30 p.m., the rink's owner smelled smoke and called the fire department.

The Ypsilanti Township fire department responded along with crews from neighboring departments.

Four departments battled the blaze, while three others were on standby. No injuries were reported.
