New York Fire Chief Dies After Live Fire Drill

Deceased firefighter was Chief of the Horseheads Village Fire Department.

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control has reported the death of Chief Richard G. Sullivan of the Horseheads Village Fire Department.

Sullivan, 57, collapsed after returning home from a live fire drill April 5. He is survived by his wife, Carol Goodyear Sullivan; children, Kevin (Lorrie) Sullivan, Bridget (Wayne) Whitford, and Patrick Sullivan; mother, Frances K. Sullivan; granddaughters, Hannah and Abigail Whitford; sister, Mary Helen Hall; brother, Arthur (Darlene) Sullivan; sisters-in-law, Anne Marie (Joseph) Cesare and Margaret (Ronald) East; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours were held at the station April 7.

The funeral service is scheduled for April 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary our Mother Church, 816 West Broad St., Horseheads, N.Y.
