Repairs to historic mainstay could last four to six weeks.

A fire caused significant damage to a part of Oakland's history Thursday morning.

The Oakland Fire Department responded to a two-alarm blaze at the Merritt Bakery at 7 a.m.

The fire was contained shortly thereafter, with no injuries reported.

The bakery, near Oakland's Lake Merritt, has been an Oakland mainstay for nearly 50 years.

Investigators believe the rebuilding and repair process would last 4-6 weeks.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
