HOUSTON --

A three-alarm fire broke out at a northwest Houston apartment complex Saturday, destroying nearly a dozen units.

Building nine was heavily damaged at the Hunter's Cove complex in the 5300 block of Desoto Street.

"I smelled something and walked outside and saw it, flames coming up," said Bradley Brashear.

Brashear, 37, lives on the second floor and believes he lost everything in his apartment home.

A firewall stopped the spread of the fire to half of the building, but the damaged half was not helped by flames quickly spreading through the attic.

HFD pulled a third alarm when some firefighters were briefly unaccounted for, but all turned out OK.

The Houston Red Cross made itself available but fire officials said the apartment management could probably relocate those affected.

Ten units were heavily damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
