SEAT PLEASANT, Md.-- Information released by the Prince George's County, Md. Fire/EMS Department stated that three firefighters were injured in a Jan. 15 apartment blaze.

Department spokesman Mark Brady said two firefighters sustained first degree burns and were treated and released at a local hospital and one firefighter sustained lacerations while performing ladder rescues.

The department responded to the fire just after 1 a.m. According to Brady, several residents evacuated prior to the department's arrival. Numerous others were forced to retreat to their balconies to escape the heat and smoke from the fire.

Brady said a team of firefighters attacked the fire while additional firefighters conducted a search and rescue of the building.

There were no civilian injuries and the loss is estimated at $30,000. Brady said fire officials deemed the cause of the fire as accidental, involving child play with matches or a lighter.
