Man Critically Injured in North Carolina House Fire

He was in a wheelchair and was unable to leave the residence without the help of firefighters.

A Randolph County man was in critical condition Friday, and a woman has been displaced, in the wake of a house fire.

The incident occurred at about 6:38 p.m. on N.C. Highway 49 in Ramseur. The fire started on a grease stove in the kitchen, according to fire investigators.

David Lee Goins, 47, was taken to a burn center in Chapel Hill and had second- and third-degree burns on 80 percent of his body, officials said.

He was in a wheelchair and was unable to leave the residence without the help of firefighters.

The home, more than five decades old, was a total loss. Maetessa Goins, 73, is staying with family members in the area.
